Mykolaiv Concept Masterplan
UN4Mykolaiv Initiative
Mykolaiv Pilot Projects
To begin the realization of the Mykolaiv masterplan, five 'Pilot Project' themes, coherent with the six design pillars, have been delineated, following the methodology proposed by the Norman Foster Foundation for the #UN4Kharkiv initiative.
These pilot projects focus on distinct areas like housing and transport, aiming to formulate tangible solutions through collaboration with architects, engineers, and international consultants, learning from each to influence broader city development. This approach develops real solutions, informs local capacities and policies, and fosters a connection between local and international professionals, enhancing long-term resiliency in Mykolaiv.
These projects, dealing with urban issues and sustainability, will focus on heritage, housing, industries & the waterfront, rivers, and an innovation district, developed with international and local collaboration, with locations selected based on community and technical team input via an online engagement campaign.
-
Mykolaiv Innovation District
The Mykolaiv Innovation District will be a strategically planned and vibrant urban area designed to foster collaboration, innovation, and entrepreneurship through a diverse range of stakeholders.
-
Industry and Trade Project
Mykolaiv once served as a pivotal nexus for industrial and trade activities, meaning oversized industrial sites. This pilot project will involve the rejuvenation of a brownfield site to provide democratic accessibility to the waterfront.
-
Housing Micro-District
As the rebuilding commences, a paramount and enduring challenge to address is securing affordable and permanent housing solutions that cater for current residents and future generations.
-
Public Spaces Project
Committed to uplifting and magnifying the allure of the city’s premier public spaces, this project will undertake the transformation of four prominent riverside locations.
-
Culture and Heritage Project
Centered on the rejuvenation of Mykolaiv’s heart, one of this pilot project seeks to resurrect a locale or structure of profound historical and cultural resonance, envisioning it as a beacon of hope and renewal for the city.
